Sydney: Welcome to 3-Minute Danish Season 1, Lesson 13 - Who Is It? In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask who it is in Danish.

Sydney: Here's the way to ask "Who is it?" in Danish.
Asger: [Normal] Hvem er det?
Sydney: First is a word meaning "who"
Asger: [Normal] hvem [Slow] hvem
Sydney: Next is the word meaning "is"
Asger: [Normal] er [Slow] er
Sydney: Last is the word meaning "it"
Asger: [Normal] det [Slow] det
Sydney: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the question meaning "Who is it?"

Sydney: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Asger: If someone that you didn't expect is knocking at your door in Denmark, you can ask the question we just learned: Hvem er det? before opening the door. Or, you can simply say hallo? while swinging your intonation up to indicate that it's a question.
