How are your Danish listening skills?
First you’ll see an image and hear a question.
Next comes a short dialogue.
Listen carefully and see if you can answer correctly.
We’ll show you the answer at the end.
En mand og en kvinde kigger på menuen i en restaurant.
Hvad bestiller manden?
Hvad bestiller du?
Pizzaen ser god ud. Jeg tror jeg tager den.
Jeg fik pizza igår. Så....
Okay, så, hvad med burgeren?
Mmh det lyder lækkert, den tager jeg.

Hi E.J. Crawley,

Thank you for commenting.

We are deeply sorry for not hearing you loud and clear in your first comment.

Our levels are based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) which is a guideline created to describe language ability.

An "Absolute Beginner" is a basic user on level A1, the very first level.

This means that you're able to use language aiming to at satisfying basic concrete needs. This includes familiar expressions, very basic phrases, and self-introduction.

You're also be able to read simple signs and visuals.

We'd recommend starting with our audio lessons because the focus is almost entirely on speaking and listening skills. Almost all of our lessons begin with a dialogue and use this as a focus and jumping off point to discuss cultural points, vocabulary, and topics in grammar. Each phrase is broken down into syllables and repeated several times so that you have maximum exposure to the language.

As for this particular set of videos, the level should match an "Absolut Beginner." The purpose of the series is to help you improve your listening comprehension skills from Danish conversations in different settings.

We truly hope this answer was helpful, and once again we apologize for any inconvenience.

Hope you will continue to study Danish with us, and we wish you the best of luck with your new and exciting life in Denmark!

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Thank you!

Thank you for answering,

With all due respect, my comment was much more involved than text being presented at the 0:50 mark.

I mentioned several things in my comment and for some reason none of those caught your attention. The main point was how difficult the series of videos for "absolute beginners" is or at least appears to be for me. I was asking if there was something I was missing, that is, not understanding, in how the program is meant to be studied or how you desire us to study these videos for the greatest benefit.

The premium package is something I will pay for but I need to make sure your desire to understand and help me learn at least equals my desire to learn.

I just moved to Denmark three weeks ago. I will soon be married and become a father for the fist time in less than a month. My future wife is Danish and has lived there all her life. I will need to speak Danish well enough to become a naturalized citizen here and be able to work. I want to learn Danish.

Your system seems to be a good one and obviously many people have spent a lot of man hours on perfecting it. I want help in understanding the method of study you envision in this particular set of videos. They seem way too advanced for absolute beginners at first sight, hence my comment.

I would very much love to see learning videos as exciting and engaging as the videos you offer to market the program. As for now, I haven't had any luck finding similar material.

Thank you for your efforts, they are truly appreciated.

Hi E.J. Crawley,

Thank you for your comment.

We have gone through the video and have not found any missing text.

The dialogue is repeated at 0:50 with both the Danish text and English subs.

Hope you will continue to enjoy learning Danish with us.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Thank you!

Hello there,

I am still very new to the system and looking into all you offer while discerning a premium purchase. I am impressed in some areas and scratching my head in others. This entire section has me wondering what the definition of an absolute beginner is.

I am in Denmark and living with native Danish speakers. We are all surprised by the difficulty of this series of videos. I have no clue as to what is being presented. The words fly by at normal speaking speed with no text at all till the video is more than half done. Leaves my poor brain spinning. Is there something I am missing?

We saw the videos for beginners which is a step above I would think and there we found video with text and image with repetition all the while. Loved it. I must be missing something.

Please help,

E.J.

At 1:03, the phrase "jeg fik pizza igår, så..." ("I had pizza yesterday, so...") is translated as "it does look delicious, but I want something different", which seems a bit odd.

Ja! Denne gang mit svar var rigtigt! Måske det er fordi jeg kan godt lide mad. :) Tak for lektionen!

(Yes! This time my answer was correct! Maybe it's because I really like food. :) Thank you for the lesson!)
